Abraham Lincoln Is Still Alive
The Israelis and the Egyptians had reached a deadlock. President Carter suggested that all the participants take a day off and visit Gettysburg, which was just a few miles from Camp David. The ground rules forbade that they discuss the peace talks. Sadat, Begin, and Carter rode together with Carter sitting between the two heads of state. To Carter's surprise, the military men on both sides knew a great deal about Gettysburg because they had studied the battles in their military schools. Begin was particularly moved to be able to stand in the spot where Lincoln delivered his famous address, a speech that Begin considered "one of the best and simplest speeches ever made." Barriers began to come down between the two sides, and the next day negotiations resumed that eventually led to the Camp David Accords. (Jimmy Carter, "Keeping Faith. He has written and co-authored seven books, plus a one-man play on Abraham Lincoln. He has performed twice at historic Ford's Theatre and at the Lincoln Memorial. His book "Time Tactics of Very Successful People" was featured in "Reader's Digest" and is now in its 24th printing. He is also author of "The Words Lincoln Lived By" and "The Inspirational Words of Abraham Lincoln." His latest CD is entitled "99 Ways to Get More Out Of Every Day" and his latest DVD is "Abraham Lincoln on Communication." He has taught at the College of William and Mary, North Carolina State University, Auburn University, and Georgia Tech. He has served as a Fulbright professor at the national graduate university of Pakistan and as a visiting researcher at the National Agrarian University of Peru and the University of New South Wales in Australia. Know the risks involved and whether the organization can afford to take them. 4. Get the authority you need. You need authority to achieve goals. If you don't have enough, get assertive. Tell your superiors you need more authority to make decisions. 5. Be decisive. Don't get caught saying, "Let me get back to you." Consult staff, but you make the decisions. 6. Be firm. If you believe in your decisions, then stick to them. However, be open to suggestions and be flexible.
